Bad luck happens to the best of us, and there are countless ways your camera may get wet. In my case, I once dropped my camera in a river while kayaking. If your camera does get wet though, there are some things you can do to growth the chances that it will remain functional. This is a collection of info I have found during the investigate I did after my camera got wet.
Once your camera gets wet, immediately take off the battery and memory card. These will be the easiest two things to save, even if the camera is toast. Now, if you drop the camera in salt water, it is probably best to rinse the camera in fresh water (preferably distilled) to take off any salt. If you have silica packets (often found in the packaging of many everyday products) put those in a bag with the camera, as they work great to Ant. Eject moisture. If you don't have any silica, even rice will work in the same way to control humidity and take off moisture. You can also take off the case of the camera if you want and let it air dry, or use a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Whatever you do, do no turn the camera on until you are obvious all the moisture is out of the camera. It is best to do a proper drying job as turning it on with any water left inside will likely fry the circuitry. As soon as you are able, you should also call a local camera shop and ask them for advice, and they may want to take a look at it.
Camera Photography
Another method you can try as suggested by one of my friends is to rinse the camera in distilled water, hang dry it, and then wrap it in some socks and duct tape it to the inside of a drying machine. After running the dryer for a few hours all the moisture should be wholly removed. My friend claims this has worked in the past on a cell phone.

Picking the best camera brand is very hard, and is something that varies greatly. Some may say Canon, while others may say Kodak. It all depends on what the camera is being used for.
Technically, there is no best camera brand, and it in effect just comes down to personel preference. Nonetheless, there are quite a few brands that in effect do dominate in many ways. These brands comprise Olympus, Leica, Panasonic, Minolta, Fuji, Pentax, and Sony. As you can see, it is hard to pick just one brand, as there are many brands that are right up there as "the best camera brand".

As for quality, this may be a bit easier to rank. At the top would be Leica, followed by Panasonic, Minolta, Olympus, Yashica, Practika, Pentacon, Fuji, and Zeiss. There are some other brands, and just because they are not on this list does not mean they are bad brands. In fact, in this time there is in effect no such thing as "bad camera brand", but there are just obvious brands that in effect shine.

Overall, many would say that the Leica could be the best if it was smaller. Many people do not like it because it is not one you can fit in your pocket. Though, it is said to be a great film and digital camera nonetheless. Olympus is probably one of the best digital Slr, and if you are willing top pay big bucks for lenses, then this is your best bet.
One thing that should be carefully intimately is what type camera you want as well. Some brands do not have good Slr cameras, while others may not have good ultra compact cameras. There are five categories, and before picking a specific brand you should absolutely know which of these you will likely want. The categories comprise ultra compact (very small), compact (small), creative compact (a bit bigger than the compact cameras), Slr-like (larger), and the Slr (the largest). Some brands will not have good Slr cameras, so if you want a good Slr camera, some brands may not be an selection for you. Generally, Sony caries ultra compact cameras, while Olympus is good known for Slr cameras. Picking a brand is not all the time something that man can help you with. Often times people pick a camera on what they find is appealing. Try out some separate cameras; see how you like their look, and their interface. It in effect comes down to personel preference over anything.
